The article that I read for this week's choice was just a broad article on the positive effects that technology have on students with disabilities. It listed several sources that can be used other than just using a traditional computer. Some of them included: cell phones, media devices, such as the ipod, ipad or nooks, etc. There were also many benefits included in this article that I thought were great. The first one discussed accessibility to information. When children have these devices handy they are able to access a lot of information on the go in a quick and efficient manner. They also mentioned that these type of technological tools will give students with disabilities more freedom and independence and therefore that will boost their confidence levels greatly. These resources also allow for many students with hearing or vision impairments to do more things on their own. Many of the tools have a feature that will read the text aloud to the student and a tool for magnifying words that are too small for a student to see. It also helps focus their attention more than a traditional textbook or desktop computer would. These types of technologies will open new doors for students with disabilities and help them accomplish more on their own.
